Trusted & Reliable Building And Carpentry Company Based In Spalding, South Lincolnshire.

When my wife and I decided to finally move forward with building a new house extension and completely redesigning our outdoor patio space, we knew we were taking on a major project. Choosing the right building contractor is arguably the most stressful part of any home improvement journey; you are essentially trusting a team with your living space, your hard-earned savings, and your peace of mind. From our very first consultation with Shaun to the final sweep of the broom, Fen Developments exceeded every single expectation we had. Without a doubt, hiring them was the best decision we could have made.

From day one, the team at Fen Developments demonstrated a level of professionalism that instantly put us at ease. Building an extension is inherently disruptive—there is noise, dust, and a complete reshuffling of your daily routine. However, the crew went above and beyond to minimize the impact on our household. They were consistently punctual, incredibly polite, and extraordinarily organized. Every evening before leaving the site, they cleaned up thoroughly, ensuring that tools were neatly stored and the work area was safe and tidy.

The quality of the craftsmanship across both the house extension and the patio is truly second to none. We had a specific vision for how we wanted the new living space to blend seamlessly with the original architecture of the house. Fen Developments didn't just execute our plans; they elevated them. The team of builders and bricklayer showed meticulous attention to detail, matching the exterior brickwork and rooflines so flawlessly that the extension looks like it was always part of the original build. Inside, the framing, insulation, plastering, and finishing work were executed to the highest standard. The extension feels solid, bright, and wonderfully insulated.

Equally impressive is the stunning new patio they constructed. What was once an uneven, underutilised patch of ground is now a gorgeous, functional outdoor living area. The paving stones were laid with absolute precision, featuring perfect drainage, clean edges, and a sturdy foundation.

Communication is another area where Fen Developments truly shines. In the construction industry, delays and miscommunications are often cited as the biggest pain points for homeowners. Throughout our project, however, we experienced the exact opposite. Shaun kept us fully informed at every single stage of the build. Whenever decisions needed to be made regarding fixtures, finishes, or minor design adjustments, both Shaun and Steve presented clear options along with honest, transparent pricing. There were no hidden surprises or unexpected cost blowouts on the final invoice. If a minor hurdle arose—as is bound to happen with any major build—the team was proactive, coming to us immediately with practical solutions rather than problems.

Furthermore, we were incredibly struck by the camaraderie and work ethic of the entire Fen Developments team. Everyone on-site, from the owner Shaun, his father Steve, bricklayers Harry and George, electrician Charlie, plumber Ollie and the roofers took genuine pride in their work. It was clear that they view home building not just as a job, but as a craft. They were always happy to answer our questions, explain the construction process, and accommodate minor tweaks we requested along the way with a smile and a can-do attitude.

Inviting contractors into your home is daunting, but Fen Developments felt like trusted partners from start to finish. They delivered our new extension and patio on schedule, within budget, and to a standard of quality that has completely transformed our home. If you are looking for a reliable, skilled, and honest building contractor who treats your home with the utmost respect and delivers breathtaking results, look no further than Fen Developments. We cannot recommend them highly enough and would happily hire them again for any future projects! Huge shout out to all the team and a massive thank you.

We wanted to wait a while before leaving a review so we could properly live with the new space and see how everything settled over time, and we can honestly say we’re very happy with the work completed.

The new room has turned out great and includes everything we asked for, from the fixtures and fittings to the placement of the electrical outlets and overall accessibility of the space. Everything was completed to a high standard and clearly done with care and attention to detail.

The building team were professional, friendly, and approachable throughout the project. We especially appreciated the extra effort they put into finding an excellent colour match for the external brickwork, so the extension blended in naturally with the existing property.

They also came back afterwards to make adjustments to the new door once the room had settled, which we felt showed a genuine commitment to making sure everything was right, even after the main work had been completed.

Overall, the room is extremely comfortable, well-insulated, and has become a really pleasant space to spend time in. We’re very pleased with the final result and would happily recommend Fen Developments to others.

I recently had kitchen work completed by Fen Developments, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. From start to finish, their team demonstrated professionalism, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to delivering high-quality work.

I would highly recommend Fen Developments to anyone looking for quality workmanship and a team you can trust. A fantastic job all around!

I had an extension and major internal remodelling of a 1970s house in Bretton, Peterborough, to make a 6 bed HMO. This was my first project in Peterborough as I live in London. I therefore didn’t know any builders in Cambridgeshire so this was uncharted waters. I spent several days scouring the FMB website and compiled a shortlist of 20 builders. I soon whittled this down to four and got quotes from all. They were roughly in the same ballpark, however I felt instinctively that I could work with Shaun from Fen Builders.

From the outset, he was very clear and honest about what he could do and when. He assessed the site which has slightly tricky access but found a solution. He worked well with the architect I appointed as project manager.

Shaun is trustworthy, honest, hard working, competent and has great team who respect him -this is so obvious. His subcontractors Ollie, Harry Raven and Charlie Bint (plumbing and electrical) are decent and highly competent tradesmen.

At inception, Shaun efficiently organised a clear quote (great itemisation) and communicated well throughout and after the project.

The British weather wasn’t always helpful but Shaun and his team kept going and worked around situations. He was always available and we never fell out. The standard of the work and finishes are high quality -I have a beautiful roof and teutonic plumbing and electrics. Shaun and his Dad Steve managed neighbours well and stuck to guidelines. They worked with Building Control and the architect I appointed to manage the JCT contract.

Shaun has high standards but also a problem solving and can-do attitude eg we had to divert some drains and a manhole; there was a kitchen cupboard door which banged into an extractor fan-Shaun sorted a special restrictor.

The usual snagging issues have been no problem for Shaun and his team. All paperwork was well organised in two folders at the end which was joyous for an obsessional person like me .

This is a well managed team of high quality builders and tradesmen who you can trust. There is decency and pride in good work from top to bottom. He’s a good family man with proper values-a rarity. I hope he’ll do my next project!

Fen developments completed a large full renovation project for us, which included structural changes, kitchen and utility fitting, bathroom installations, construction of a garage and double carport and replacement of septic tank system. All work was completed to a such a high standard, with great attention to detail and the end result is fantastic.

Shaun and the Fen Developments team are highly skilled and always professional. Reliable and trustworthy, the team are a pleasure to work with. Always helpful and collaborative, they worked with us to explore options and solutions (to the many issues we uncovered in our old property) and often proactively suggested improvements and alternatives.

They’re a brilliant company and we will only be using Fen Developments for any works in the future. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them, and have done so to friends and family members.
